Kozhikode: UL Foundation, a philanthropic subsidiary of Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society (ULCCS), will soon start a collaboration with a Kolkata NGO – Transcendent Knowledge Society – for soft skills and catering training for its inmates. Discussions are on with the founder of the NGO Amrita Roy Choudhari.
“This part of India, sensitisation is much more. On our side, it is actually very bad. My frequent interaction with UL Foundation director Dr MK Jayaraj gave many insights into the services being carried out by the foundation here,” she said.
Ms Choudhari visited the Sargaalaya, Madithattu, Nayanar Sadanam and Malabar Hospital, where many of the specially talented people trained by the foundation are placed.
“We intend to enhance the training processes and introduce a few training options in Balika Sadanam. Separate training for the teachers as well as for those who are already employed. Once we empower them better, that will help them to get a better salary in their current organisations too,” Ms Choudhari said.
“The NGO is doing many activities based in Kolkata, predominantly catering business. Catering is one thing that we can successfully run in Kozhikode,” said Dr MK Jayaraj, director of UL Foundation.
“Since we are ideally located in the city, the development chances are more for us, for training as well as business. We can also think of participation from the parents as well to run it successfully. Many parents have come forward and enquired whether they can partner in such small businesses and stabilise the future of their kids. More profit can be ensured through online business,” he added.
